Thompson unveils five-point comprehensive Caledon Mayor re-election campaign platform
CALEDON, Ontario (September 10, 2018) – “People, Places and Possibilities” are at the core of Mayor Allan Thompson’s re-election campaign.
Broadband, affordable housing, fiscal management, transit, infrastructure and managed, responsible growth are key priorities that require experience, sound decision making and collaborative leadership in order to advance.
“These are key issues at the forefront in our community right now and it is important that Caledon voters know where I stand,” he says.
Townwide access to affordable, reliable high-speed Internet remains a top priority. Thompson says the preliminary design work is complete and construction of the main lines are underway. “We’re on the right track and we need to finish the work we’ve started that will result in a fully-connected Caledon” he says. “We have made tremendous headway on this initiative by developing partnerships and building relationships with our Federal and Provincial Governments.”
Other policy priorities include:
- Leadership and Collaboration | Allan Thompson has provided the leadership for Caledon in the corridors that make a difference. His ability to work effectively with ALL levels of government has elevated the understanding of the unique challenges Caledon faces, and earned the respect necessary to best protect the interests of ALL residents.
- Affordable Housing and Managed Growth | Made-in-Caledon solutions are needed that maintain and enhance the distinct and unique characteristics of Caledon’s community of communities, ones that create opportunities for residents and future residents to live, work and retire in Caledon. These options must be affordable and accessible to seniors and first-time home buyers.
- Fiscal Responsibility | Balancing our spending priorities against fiscal prudence requires leadership. We will work to build on the proven successes in transparency and accountability that assures your tax dollars are well managed while continuing to balance our tax base, enabling appropriate investments in our community.
- Public Works, Transit and Infrastructure | We will continue to evolve and implement our plan. One that enhances the long-term viability of our public works infrastructure through prudence and stewardship of these public assets, and by engaging and partnering with other levels of government to maximize resources and ensure public safety.
Continuing to listen, Thompson’s open and accessible approach that has in part defined his entire fifteen years of service in Caledon is uninterrupted during the campaign. Thompson and his team will continue to meet with Caledon residents across the Town, including hosting a series of community sessions to engage with residents. He will be using feedback from the campaign and these conversations to augment his platform’s priorities.
