“This election is a critical one for the future of our Town. Over the past few years your Council has voted numerous times to support the moderate, balanced growth plan as developed and dictated by YOU, our residents.” Read the full letter.
Caledon is on a precipice of change and strong, proven leadership that is committed to maintaining and delivering on Caledon’s vision for our future is what we need. Only leadership that clearly understands the complexities on how our community can accommodate the growth dictated by the Province and/or the Region of Peel and is fully committed to the best interest of all of Caledon will be able to successfully safeguard our future.
It’s this strength and commitment that allow us to enhance rather than detract from our quality of life, respect Caledon’s natural beauty and environment, maintain the quality of life in our urban towns, villages and quaint hamlets and ensure Caledon remains the special place that we all love to call home.
Recent national press has alluded to the strength of leadership it has taken in our community to withstand external and internal pressures over three terms of council, and in doing so keep Caledon unique. Your Caledon leadership has stood strong for over a decade at great personal cost. Standing up for Caledon is what fuels my personal drive.
Over the past 15 years of service–first as the Area Councillor, eight years as Regional Councillor for Ward 2 and the last four years as your Mayor–I have demonstrated time and time again the ability to bring together the right people, at the right time, to build consensus, resolve issues through collaboration and negotiation.
As Election Day draws near, constituents will be asking the tough questions of candidates. One question that best cuts to the core of a campaign and a candidate’s motivation is: “Why are you running and what will a vote re-electing Allan Thompson as your Mayor mean for Caledon residents?” Born and raised in Caledon, my family and I continue to live in the same community where I was born and raised, and where Anne and I have raised our two amazing, made-in-Caledon young adults…seventh generation Canadians in our beautiful part of the community.
My family, my neighbours, residents and business owners I meet every day, provide me with the motivation to ensure that Caledon will continue to be a vibrant and welcoming community blessed with engaging citizens and business and lifestyle opportunities.
This election is a critical one for the future of our Town. Over the past few years your Council has voted numerous times to support the moderate, balanced growth plan as developed and dictated by YOU, our residents.
Delivering on promises has been a hallmark of my first term as your Mayor.
And I’m committed to continuing the positive work that is underway. I am excited about continuing to respond to the challenges.
I have listened, acted and worked hard for you for 15 years and I will continue work to serve you well. During the campaign I will be participating in debates, holding “Thompson’s Town Hall Meetings” and engaging with many of you on issues and answering questions.
I look forward to having that discussion with you.
On Monday, October 22 or in the advance polls, I respectfully ask for your support.
Candidate for Re-Election, Mayor, Town of Caledon
